Holiday food & wine guide

Wed like to celebrate the bounty of the holidays with a gift for party hosts — a festive menu complete with wine pairings to take the guesswork out of entertaining. Our in-house culinary specialist, Emily Martin, has created a classic holiday feast of seasonal delicacies elevated by our new line of gourmet food products. The menu demonstrates the versatility of our award-winning portfolio of wines, offering recommendations that can easily become a tradition for any gathering.

The holiday season is a great time to start new traditions, but they don’t have to be complicated. A lingering meal with good food paired with food-friendly wine can be a true gift and reminder to enjoy the moment, says our Co-President and CEO, Alison Sokol Blosser.

From festive cocktail parties to an intimate get-together, our curated list of wines can suit any palate or occasion. Menu pairing suggestions offer an additional Sokol Blosser twist, incorporating gourmet foods, created with proprietary recipes, that can easily stand alone to please the most discriminating epicurean on a gift list. The new line of products includes Sokol Blosser Rhubarb Rosemary Jam, Cocktail Sauce, Savory Spice Rub and Maple Rosemary Roasted Nuts, and all are available for holiday ordering online here.

Sokol Blossers Holiday Wine Pairing Menu

Evolution Sparkling ($22) with Briar Rose Goat Cheese Tartlet and Sokol Blosser Gourmet Rhubarb Rosemary Jam ($10)
Evolution Sparkling serves as a palate cleanser, making it the perfect complement to the creaminess of the goat cheese and sweetness of the jam. This brut is dry on the palate, with a crisp, clean finish, and features aromatics of apricot, green apple, Bosc pear, white peach and citrus.

2013 Willamette Valley Pinot Gris ($19) with Jumbo Tiger Shrimp & Sokol Blosser Gourmet Cocktail Sauce ($10)
Sokol Blosser Willamette Valley Pinot Gris offers a tartness that offsets the bite of cocktail sauce and refreshes the palate. The pinot gris shows floral, citrus and honeydew aromatics that lead into grapefruit and melon flavors.

2011 Estate Cuvée Pinot Noir ($60) with Prime Rib rubbed with Gourmet Savory Sokol Blosser Spice Rub ($8), served with a Root Mash Medley, Gravy and Horseradish Cream
The 2011 Estate Cuvée Pinot Noir is bolder than the Dundee Hills Pinot Noir; this big yet elegant pinot noir can stand up to a rich and tender dish like prime rib. This pinot noir exhibits notes of ripe raspberry, baking spice and tarragon. The depth and boldness of pure fruit flavor, strong structure, acid and persistent length is expressive in the wine when paired with this hearty, savory course.

2013 White Riesling Dessert Wine ($40) and Spice Cake with Orange Zest Goat’s Milk Ice Cream and Nut Brittle made from Sokol Blosser Gourmet Maple Rosemary Roasted Nuts ($14)
The 2013 Sokol Blosser White Riesling Dessert Wine offers an acidity that balances well with the floral and brightness of the orange zest goat’s milk ice cream. This Riesling exhibits flavors and aromas of white peach and honeysuckle.
