  • Cellar Assistant - Full Time

    We are looking for an experienced Cellar Assistant to join our Winemaking Production team. This full-time position is responsible for daily cellar operations that are vital in our winemaking processes to achieve success and quality control. We are a value-based company, we work hard and play hard, and we like each other!

     

    This is how you would spend your days!

    • Perform all cellar operations in accordance with SOPs established by Sokol Blosser to include Wine movements, barrel work, mixing of wines, wine additions, maintain headspaces and wine surfaces for quality
    • Properly sanitation of tanks, hoses, barrels, pumps, fittings, drains and floors
    • Maintain a clean and safe work area
    • Receives and assists in shipping of bulk wine, including accurate completion of all necessary paperwork
    • Loading and unloading supplies and case goods from trucks
    • Record data accurately and completely onto assigned work order paperwork from wine movements, tank measurements, additions, etc.
    • Work on the bottling line as needed: dumping glass, packing, palletizing or forklifting
    • Pulling samples for lab tasting and/or analysis
    • Accurate record keeping by written completion of work-orders

    Harvest specific, annually:

    • Operation of harvest equipment, including but not limited to, destemmers, sorting line, augers, press, pneumatic punch down device, pumps
    • Harvest specific tasks including but not limited to cap management, fruit processing, sorting fruit on the line, unloading trucks, forklifting, juice rackings, vineyard sampling, pump-overs, punch-downs, dig outs, checking brix, processing fruit directly to tank or press, fruit sorting, additions and cleaning
    • Assist the Cellar Master in educating and leading the harvest crew on our practices and SOPs
    • Lead late evening shift harvest cellar clean up

     

    Position requirements

    • Degree in winemaking, enology, fermentation science or related science field desired; or 5+ years of equivalent experience
    • Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in harvest
    • Basic working knowledge of winery practices
    • Light maintenance of winery equipment
    • Computer skills, including knowledge and skills using Excel
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, in the cellar as well as with paperwork
    • Able and willing to work long and variable hours, including weekends
    • Innovative, positive team player, able and enjoys working within a team as well as able to work alone for periods of time
    • Must be certified or able to be certified to operate a forklift and pallet jack
    • Work safely in a team environment and follow all SOPs for safety and quality and suggest updates where necessary
    • Responsible for understanding and complying with safety regulations and applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory
    • Able to follow written and oral instructions in English
    • Able to communicate clearly with others
    • Able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
    • Attention to detail and high standards of quality and cleanliness
    • Able to perform demanding physical tasks, lift and carry up to 55lbs, climb ladders, stand for long periods of time
    • Mobility throughout winery required
    • Possess a good attitude
    • Comfort with cats and dogs as they are on the property and in our work areas
    • Ping-Pong skills a plus

     

    Position Comments

    • Standard hours are 40 hours a week and schedules may vary depending on business needs
    • Longer hours are required during harvest of fruit, bottling and other times of the year as the business requires
