An early veraison, or onset of ripening of grapes has swept colorfully across the Willamette Valley which means the team is busy gearing up for harvest here at Sokol Blosser.
In the coming weeks, well be sharing regular updates throughout harvest 2015, with some behind-the-scenes snapshots gathered from our winemaker Alex Sokol Blosser and his vineyard team.
Alex Sokol Blossers Vineyard Report for August 4, 2015:
- Color change began on Friday, July 24th with pops of purple cropping up in clusters across the vineyard.
- Due to a record amount of days above 90 degrees, we are about a month early for every stage of vine development. But even when the days get this warm, the nights still cool down to the mid-50s.
- With high pressure weather patterns occurring often this summer, we are still spraying for mildew.
- As a result of such a sunny, dry summer season, we believe the crop yield will be high again this year.
