• Harvest At The Estate

Harvest is ramping up at the Estate, you’ll see signs warning guests of tractors and lots of commotion on the crush pad. Harvest begins with the first grapes arriving for sparkling wines, since we are looking for lots of acidity in the fruit for this style of wine. Next, we usually see Pinot Noir harvested early to make Rosé, again looking for the higher acid to make a crisp wine. Finally white wines will begin arriving, closely followed by our Pinot Noir. The first fruit arrives in late August and the last fruit will come in usually in early October, this of course can always vary depending on weather.

Our team works long days making sure all the fruit is processed and monitoring the fermentations, so to support them we provide a hot lunch every day during harvest. It has become a tradition that other members of the Sokol Blosser team bring baked goods and end of shift beers for the winemaking team throughout harvest. The boys, Sebastian and Harry, also provide plenty of moral support through cuddles.

If you would like to learn more about harvest, check out this episode of our podcast where Alex Sokol Blosser breaks down what harvest is and everything it entails. You’ll really appreciate your next glass of wine after listening!
