Willamette Valley Chamber Music Festival
August 7, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The Willamette Valley Chamber Music Festival announces the 2022 season of live in-person performances August 6th-21st at three iconic Oregon wineries. Continuing to prioritize Covid-19 safety protocols, the concerts will once again be at reduced venue capacity, and WVCMF has crafted a season of special, intimate concert experiences that will maximize the the events’ personal and immediate nature.
Join us on August 7th for a performance in Sokol Blosser’s beautiful tasting room, located in Dayton, OR. With gorgeous views of the vineyards on either side, the program begins with the west coast premiere of Kevin Day’s String Quartet No. 5, an exploration of two very different sides of this brilliant young composer, beginning with his introspective, meditative side, and moving into the fast paced, quick fire, gregarious side that reflects his upbringing as the son of a hip hop producer father and gospel singer mother. Reena Esmail’s evocative Zeher, follows. This short, intense string quartet takes us to a darker corner of the human experience, but one we can all relate to. The second half of the program begins with little known string quintets (originally written for viol consort) by Leonora Duarte, and concludes with Mozart’s sublime String Quintet No. 6 in E flat Major. This work was the last major work of chamber music Mozart wrote, and it illustrates the genius at the height of his powers, turning a favorite genre (the “viola quintet”) into almost a miniature opera.
