WINE
We love Chardonnay. It’s versatile, friendly to the most healthy – and most decadent – of foods, and comes in so many different styles. Our winemaking team crafted a Chardonnay in the style they’d like to drink themselves. Dangerously floral and fruit-driven with a crisp finish. This wine makes it easy to enjoy drinking a young Chardonnay, and even easier to share with friends.

WINEMAKING
Just like a good first base coach, we are all about the steel! This Chardonnay went through a long, cool fermentation in stainless steel with a dash of oak for structure. It was then aged in (you guessed it!) stainless steel for three months to get the absolute minimum of lees contact, then two months in neutral oak barrel to keep the wine crisp and bright!

VINTAGE
2022 had a late start but made up for it by being our 2nd hottest summer on record! Grapes were chilling on the vine so long into October we thought we were going to have to make them Halloween costumes! But the weather stayed nice and dry till the end and we had gorgeous, gorgeous fruit to make gorgeous, gorgeous wines!

NOTES
Bright tropical fruit reigns supreme, accompanied by ripe honeydew, and a touch of the cleanest minerality (like licking river rocks, but in the best way). A touch of creaminess on the mid palate but definitely not buttery!

PAIRINGS
Popcorn, fried chicken, salads (green, potato, tuna – you name it!), roasted veggies, grilled shrimp, fish & chips, and chicken curry.

VINTAGE HIGHLIGHTS
What started as a dry winter turned into a deluge of rain in the springtime. We had the wettest and coldest April/May/June in recorded (130 years) history. Freezing temperatures on the morning of April 14th and 15th knocked back the fragile new growth, in fact, until crop estimates were done in late August, we thought our crop yields would be down by 50-60%. In over 51 years of growing grapes here in the Dundee Hills we have never seen a freezing event during the growing season, so we had no idea what was going to happen. The primary buds froze and died, but the secondary buds came on, produced fewer but larger clusters, and the vines made a miraculous comeback. The coldest and wettest spring turned into the 2nd warmest and driest summer on record, and then we got to October. Fortunately we got the warmest October in Oregon history, we were able to let the grapes hang, and the rains stayed put until all our Estate fruit was in on Thursday, October 27th. We are thrilled with the wine produced from this vintage!

WINEMAKING
The fruit was harvested between September 22 and October 2. Our Bluebird Cuvée is a vibrant example of a wine made in the traditional method. It is kept in tirage for a relatively short amount of time, only 12 months, the shorter tirage time is essential for the style of sparkling we are aiming to produce. We are looking to create a sparkling wine with bright acidity and citrus zest characters along with other intense floral and tropical fruit characteristics.

WINE PROFILE
On the nose, our 2022 Bluebird Cuvée has bright notes of perfumed citrus fruit, with candied lemon peel and orange. The palate is framed by crisp Granny Smith apples and Bosc pears.

PAIRINGS
This wine pairs beautifully with blueberry or banana pancakes, Puget Sound oysters, and smoked salmon with or without the bagel.

THE STORY
The label showcases Sokol Blosser’s long-time support of the Prescott Western Bluebird Recovery Project, with an image of a Western Bluebird. For more than 20 years, Sokol Blosser has offered needed shelter and support to preserve a breeding habitat for Western Bluebirds, with 15 bird houses on our organically farmed property.

VINTAGE HIGHLIGHTS
2023 was our 3rd warmest growing season on record after the 2015 and 2014 vintages. We had the warmest and driest August on record and if it was not for the rain in early September our harvest would have started before Labor Day Weekend. Three cheers for the rain! One of the interesting things about 2023 was the arrival of our first hailstorm right after bloom. We have never seen a damaging hailstorm in our vineyard since we started in 1971, so seeing it happen and the resulting damage was at first a little scary. While it looked like our yields might have been higher, the hailstorm helped reduce the crop to our desired amount. The resulting fruit was excellent, with the heat in August producing lower acid in the grapes and nice full flavors.

WINEMAKING
The fruit for this wine was hand harvested on September 16th and whole cluster pressed. It fermented in stainless steel barrels before aging 40% for five months in neutral French oak barrels, and 60% for five months in a stainless steel tank.

WINE PROFILE
Notes of honey and peach blossom on the nose. On the palate, lemon zest, unripe Bartlett pear, green almond, and nectarine, with mouthwatering acidity.

THE STORY
This Pedotti Vineyard Pinot Blanc is the newest member of our grower series, where we create wines from grapes grown in one of the many beautiful vineyards around the Willamette Valley. These wines represent our relationships with the vintners we call friends and neighbors.

VINTAGE HIGHLIGHTS
What started as a dry winter turned into a deluge of rain in the springtime. We had the wettest and coldest April/May/June in recorded (130 years) history. Freezing temperatures on the morning of April 14th and 15th knocked back the fragile new growth, in fact, until crop estimates were done in late August, we thought our crop yields would be down across the board by 50-60%. Anticipating a “worst case scenario”, our winemaker, Robin, worked to source fruit from our neighboring Columbia Valley. As the growing season progressed we learned not to second guess a grapevine. In over 51 years of growing grapes here in the Dundee Hills we have never seen a freezing event during the growing season, so we had no idea what was going to happen. The primary buds froze and died, but the secondary buds came on, produced fewer but larger clusters, and the vines made a miraculous comeback. Having been able to source such high quality fruit, Robin continued on with making wine from the Columbia Valley grapes and as a result we have this beautiful GSM.

WINEMAKING
The fruit was hand harvested the first week of October and spent 7-13 days fermenting in stainless steel tanks. It then aged 10 months in 30% new French oak with some American oak.

WINE PROFILE
On the nose there is dark cherry and dark currant with a hint of clove and white pepper. The palate is medium bodied with lovely richness from the dark fruit characteristics, earthiness, a hint of gameyness, followed by a spiced finish of cinnamon, clove and white pepper.

PAIRINGS
Pair with sauteed mushrooms in a teriyaki glaze, grilled ribeye steak, grilled Korean beef bulgogi, and medium sharp cheddar.

VINTAGE HIGHLIGHTS
It was clear something was different with the 2019 harvest when fruit flies were spotted at Thistle Vineyard over Labor Day Weekend. The second sign was the dramatic shift in the weather forecast. At the end of August, we believed we would have a “warmer and drier” than average September/October. Sounds good huh?!?!? Then, at the end of September we got 2.7” of rain… which is double the average, and we had one of the coolest Septembers on record. We remembered and applied the key learnings from prior similar vintages in our approach to the 2019 harvest – get the grapes as ripe as possible with as little fruit degradation as possible. Even with a longer hang time this year the grapes had less sugar, high pHs and high acids. Consequently, we based our picking decision more on the taste of the juice and looking at the weather. We had 5 distinct rain events from when we started harvest on September 3 to when we ended picking on October 10th, and these individual rain events sometimes lasted multiple days. In the end, we got as much ripeness as possible and are very happy about what we put into barrel.

WINEMAKING
The fruit for this wine was farmed organically on our estate, and was hand harvested at peak ripeness on September 26th and 28th. The picked fruit was destemmed and sent straight to fermentation with a combination of commercial yeast and our house native yeast cultivated from our vineyards. During its ~21 day fermentation, cap management was performed with strictly punch downs of the 3 ton fermenters, it was a cool vintage resulting in long, cool fermentations. Once the fermentation process was finished, the wine was pressed of the skins at dryness and barreled down in 100% French oak barrels with 24% new oak, and left to age for 16 months before bottling.

WINE PROFILE
On the nose, this wine expresses wet forest floor and mushrooms, complemented by prune, dried cherry and cinnamon. On the palate, the nose largely carries through, though it is joined by nutmeg and tobacco.

PAIRINGS
This wine will pair beautifully with boeuf bourguignon or lamb tagine.

THE STORY
The Watershed Block Pinot Noir comes from fruit harvested off of a section of the vineyard planted by founders Bill and Susan Sokol Blosser in the early 70s. Although replanted in 2006/2009 on rootstock, cuttings from fruiting vines were taken from the original plantings and grafted onto rootstock for the replant.

VINTAGE HIGHLIGHT
It was a dark and stormy night…and that was just the first day of 2017! Yes, 2017 started out like a number of Oregon vintages have started out: cold, wet and rainy. In fact, to start out 2017 we had snow. Snow shut down the winery for a number of days in January and this cold weather foretold the following cool spring. Bud break was late in relation to the past 5 years (late April instead of early April), but more normal when you look at our 40+ growing seasons. The cool, wet weather was not to last, and the heat volcano erupted in mid-June to the tune of 95°F! Thanks to the wonderful deluge of wet weather in the winter and spring of 2017, our vines were able to handle the scorching hot summer. Our underground barrel cellar reached temps we have never seen before (in the 70s) and the expanding wine pushed some bungs out. The cool spring helped push out harvest, but the hot summer helped make sure the grapes were ready to go with little delay. We picked over a six week time period, which is a week or so longer than normal due to the rain events. The crop was huge — one of the largest we have seen since 2014. The fruit was ripe and very clean, boding well for quality.

WINEMAKING
The grapes from this block were carefully hand harvested over two days, the highest section of the block was picked at a 1°Brix level higher than the lower section of the same block to average 23.2°Brix for the overall picking blend. The sections of the block are not that far apart but the slightest variation in elevation can make all the difference on the Sokol Blosser estate. The clusters were then sorted by hand to remove any flawed bunches and 100% de-stemmed directly into their fermentation vessels. This block was fermented slowly in our 3-ton open top stainless steel tanks and pressed at dryness to capture the fruit and manage tannin development. This wine was aged entirely in French oak barrels for 17 months with minimal SO2 levels. There were 24 barrels hand selected for this final 2017 Big Tree Block blend. 25% of this blend represents wine aged in new oak barrels.

WINE PROFILE
Our 2017 Big Tree Block Pinot Noir has a light and floral nose. This wine has a complex mouthfeel and soft tannins with a pop of pink peppercorn.

PAIRINGS
Serve with hearty meats like lamb burger on a brioche bun with a healthy schmear of smoked ketchup.

THE STORY
What is a boy to do when his favorite climbing tree is ruthlessly chopped down by his father in the name of grape growing? Well, Alex Sokol Blosser is still trying to figure that one out. Until then, Alex drinks Big Tree Pinot Noir and thinks about climbing the strong limbs of a solitary, beautiful, and graceful Big Leaf Maple Tree that used to lie smack dab in the middle of a block of Pinot Noir. Big Tree is strong like its namesake with the most powerful tannins of any Pinot Noir coming off our estate. Shallow soil on this site makes the vines struggle more than the rest of our vineyard and produces strength in the wine.

VINTAGE HIGHLIGHTS
2021 was the 2nd warmest growing season we have ever seen since 2015. We also got to add a new term to the dictionary: “Heat Dome”. Three straight days of triple digit temperatures in late June breaking heat records for the Willamette Valley! Bud break started like usual in the middle of April. We had the driest March through May that the Willamette Valley has seen through 128 years of record keeping! Bloom also appeared on time in early/mid June. While late June brought the “Heat Dome”, our grapes made it through thanks to bloom being finished at all our sites and there still being soil moisture, so they grew like crazy over those three days of hellish temperatures. While July and August turned out to be exceedingly hot and dry, September arrived with little rain which that allowed us to fully ripen the grapes. The hot and dry summer made for fruit that was extremely clean, resulting in for excellent fermentations. All in all, mother nature gave us something to be grateful for on our 50th anniversary.

WINEMAKING
The grapes were carefully harvested from the Big Tree Block (on our Estate vineyard), with 60% harvested on first September 13th at 22 brix and the other 40% on the 21st at 23 brix. The fruit was hand sorted to remove any flawed bunches and de-stemmed directly into three ton stainless steel fermenters. Fermentation took place over 10-15 days using a combination of our native Sokol A yeast and ambient yeast, with punchdowns for cap management. After the long, cool fermentation, the wine was pressed off at dryness and then barrel aged for 16 months in 100% French oak barrels with 15% new oak.

WINE PROFILE
Our 2021 Big Tree Block Pinot Noir has fresh pomegranate, dark cherry, and a slight floral presence on the nose. On the palate, pomegranate and dark cherry continue with rhubarb coming to the forefront followed by a lovely long finish.

PAIRINGS
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as steak frites and grilled lamb chops with garlic and herbs.

Is there a perfect looking vineyard site that produces a vine that looks like it is in perfect balance? If so, the 7 acres that make up the Orchard Block would be in the running for perfect looking vineyard. Balance is this sites middle name, and it’s that balance that is the thread that runs through this wine each and every year. Tannins too big? Nope, just right. Too fruity? Nope, just right. Goldilocks would love this wine!
