2007 White Riesling Dessert Wine

Deep gold in color, this wine combines hazelnut, floral, vanilla and honey aromas and flavors. Luscious and sweet, yet balanced by crisp acidity, it is clean and refreshing.

This special, ultra-rich dessert wine is produced from White Riesling grapes. Crafted in the ice wine style of Germany, whole clusters of grapes are frozen immediately after harvesting and then pressed while still solid. The water in the grapes remains behind as ice and only the sweetest juice, which does not freeze, drips out and is collected. This juice is over twice as sweet as the juice from unfrozen grapes, and the yield is less than half. The pressing is followed by a very long, slow fermentation lasting, for this wine, about two months. This painstaking process yields an incredibly intense, sweet, concentrated wine - a pure expression of the essence of White Riesling.

said on 03/04/2009 We sought out this dessert wine at the recommendation from the Black Walnut Inn as the perfect pairing to the dessert we would prepare in our cooking class that evening. They weren't kidding. Having lived in Germany and tasted a variety of Eiswein, the Sokol Blosser 2006 White Riesling Dessert Wine is right up there as a taste of pure, sun-filled liquid honey. We enjoyed it so much we've taken some home to the Bronze Antler Bed & Breakfast in Joseph, Oregon, for our B&B guests to enjoy as well. Fantastic wine.
