Bravo, Fratelli Cucina!
As a local “Newbergundian, it is rare that I make it over the hill that is more commonly referred to as Rex Hill. But, on the occasion that I do make it out of the small town of Newberg and into the “big city of Portland, I look forward to a nicely prepared meal in one of the upcoming restaurants. On my most recent venture out, I focused all of my attention towards an outstanding Italian restaurant in the Pearl District named Fratelli. It is located at 12th and Hoyt, tucked into a narrow, intimate hideaway.
After we finished a bottle of Chianti with our 1st course of Bruschette and Formaggi Misti (an amazing cheese assortment) we switched the mood to a bottle of 2001 Sokol Blosser Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that I brought along to share with my friends. I was surprised to find so many choices of entrees that would pair well with our Pinot Noir. Between the four of us, we all agreed it was the perfect pair with our meals. For dinner, I had the Seared Free-Range Chicken wrapped in Prosciutto with Parmesan Polenta and Mushroom Jus. Description of my first bite: juicy, white chicken wrapped in crispy prosciutto, finished by a buttery creamy mushroom sensation otherwise known as Polenta with mushroom jus. Amazing! Even better yet, this mouthwatering entrée was an incredible price at only $15.75! I could hardly believe such a wonderful meal could be less than $20. Very affordable, perfect quantity and nice presentation!
So, if you are looking for a memorable meal while browsing the shops of the Pearl, I highly recommend stopping into Fratelli for not just a bite, but an experience!
Ciao!
